Mikel Arteta would be keen on taking the vacant Arsenal head coach role under certain conditions.

The Spaniard was in the running for the job before Unai Emery was hired in 2018, and is again one of the frontrunners to manage the team.

But the Spaniard wants guarantees over the club’s long-term future, according to The Sun.

This includes assurances on the direction of the club and projects he would be taking on.

Arteta, who spent five years playing for Arsenal (2011 – 2016) finished his playing career at the Emirates.

He’s since taken up a position working under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City as the team’s assistant coach.

City are reportedly content with allowing Arteta to leave, but would prefer the 37 year-old remains in situ until the end of the season.

For now, Freddie Ljungberg is in temporary charge of the Gunners on what appears to be a ‘game by game’ basis.
