Speaking last night on Monday night football, Gary Neville said Arsenal are nearly worthy of a title challenge, but are in need of a few additions to the squad this summer. Like many have previously expressed before him, Neville said Arsenal need to improve the spine of the team.

The former United player said that if Arsenal could find players to match the likes of Diego Costa, Nemanja Matic, and John Terry, they will be well on their way to challenging for honours.

“They need those three or four players to hold that spine together because what they’ve got around it, with Ramsey, Ozil, Welbeck and Sanchez, they’re fantastic,” he said.

“But they need that spine to be strong right the way through a season and I think at the moment it’s whether Arsene Wenger can get his hands on those two or three players.”

He continued, saying Arsenal must target top caliber players if they are to strengthen the side.

“They tried to sign Suarez two years ago. They nearly got him but didn’t get him. Those are the type of players are the ones they need to get hold of to make that next jump.”

Interestingly enough, Wenger has since echoed those statements, saying he does not need to add to much to his squad and will be only be on the lookout for “top class players”. Things could get interesting this summer my fellow gooners. Several of these said top class players are expected to available, so let’s hope the boss stays true to his word.
