Arsenal may miss out on long time target Kostas Manolas, despite rumours that the Roma defender could be available for cut-price figure this summer.

According to reports in Italy, the Greek defender will be allowed to leave the Serie A side this summer if they fail to secure a Champions League spot.

Roma are currently 5th in the league, four points adrift of the nearest Champions League spot.

Calciomercato say Manolas has a release clause in his deal that can see him leave for £31million if Roma don’t finish in Italy’s top four.

This is good news for Unai Emery’s side, who are in need of reinforcements at the back. However, it has also opened the door for Manchester United to target the 27 year-old.

It could come down to whether Arsenal or United reach the Champions League next season. Both teams are in the fight for a top four place with just two points between them in the Premier League.
