Manchester United have stepped up their pursuit for Monaco forward Kylian Mbappe, according to the Independent.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has expressed his admiration for the 18 year old’s talent in an interview for French TV last month, but it seems the Gunners will face a stronger challenge from United in the summer for the young striker.

Sources have told the Independent that United’s original number one target Atletico Madrid Antoine Griezmann has gone down in their list of priorities due to complications of securing his signature. His club Atletico are reluctant to do business for anything less than the player’s buyout clause.

Instead, United will place their focus on Mbappe and Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski, with the Frenchman in particular of interest to the Red Devils.

The 18 year old has had an impressive season for Monaco with 15 goals and 10 assists in 29 appearances in all competitions. Arsenal will likely have to fork out a significant amount if they are to fight off competition to sign the forward.
