Arsenal legend Martin Keown is fed up with the latest saga surrounding Mesut Ozil.

The midfielder has started just one match in 2019 and was left out once more for Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat to BATE Borisov on Thursday night.

Ozil’s latest sick note means he’s up to eight since the start of the 2017/18 season.

Just over a year ago the German signed a new £350,000-a-week contract keeping him at the Emirates Stadium until 2021, but the 30 year-old’s barely featured for the Gunners since.

His latest absence marked the 100th game Ozil has missed for Arsenal from 314 he could have featured in since joining. Keown questioned the German’s commitment and insisted a solution must be found.

He told BT Sport: “Is he injured? Is he ill? One thing as a player you’ve got to be is available for selection and you want to give consistency. He hasn’t been able to give either of those.

“He’s got to work to get back into the team. That is what the manager is asking for that is what he has to do.

“It is becoming embarrassing the Ozil situation. No [Aaron] Ramsey of course as well. Him not being part of the future is hard to take.”
