Arsenal legend Martin Keown believes the players are not responding to the current formation system and has suggested Unai Emery switch to a back-three.

The Spaniard is still searching for his first point as Gunners boss since replacing Arsene Wenger at the Emirates in the summer.

Arsenal have been implementing a out-from-the-back passing style in their opening two league games so far.

Marcos Alonso’s late strike condemned Arsenal to their second defeat in as many games at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Emery has vowed not to change his system and it appears his players will just have to improve.

But Gunners hero Keown is concerned the players are not quite getting it.

Alonso celebrates the winner at Stamford Bridge

He said: “It’s about giving the message to the players and them reacting.

“In these results he has not been able to do that. They are not taking on board the messages he is giving them.

“It’s going to be a difficult week for him. I expect them to beat West Ham next week but they need to improve.

“How many games did Arsene Wenger manage? It’s 1,000-plus games and it’s a philosophy that you cannot change overnight.

“I find it disappointing they haven’t improved further. They don’t look right and need to radically change the system and look.”

Gooners, what formation should Arsenal go with? Let us know in the comments…
