Matteo Guendouzi has vowed to commit to France at international level, despite Morocco wishing to select him.
The midfielder moved to the Gunners from Lorient for £7million in the summer and was relatively unknown to fans in north London.
However, supporters have quickly taken to the Frenchman, thanks to his forward-thinking mentality and youthful exuberance.
Guendouzi would qualify to play for Morocco through his father but insists his dream is to play for France, who he currently represents at Under-21 level.
He told Canal+ after his second outing against Spain: “Since I was young, I’ve always played with the French teams.
“It’s a dream to play with the France senior team. And I’m hoping to get there, it’s a dream for me to make it happen.”
Morocco have not given up on Guendouzi, with French-born coach Herve Renard having arranged to meet with the player’s father to discuss his plans.
Gooners, should Guendouzi be a regular in the Premier League or are Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira the right two to anchor? Let us know in the comments…
