Mikel Arteta has praised Gabriel Martinelli’s attitude following the Brazilian’s impressive first-half of the season, amid speculation Real Madrid are lining up a move for the youngster.

Martinelli has forced his way into the Arsenal first XI with a combination of talent and effort.

The 18 year-old enjoyed a place in the starting line-up at Arsenal under the new manager, having previously been a reserve under Unai Emery.

Arteta has given his verdict on the youngster, and admitted that his mentality is one of the best aspects to his game.

Martinelli is having a fine debut season at Arsenal

“For me the biggest thing is his hunger, his attitude and his willingness,” said Arteta.

“After that he is obviously a player that is a threat on goal. He can finish, he can run in behind and he is a fighter.

“But his biggest attribute is his personality. Every time he is on that pitch he doesn’t care about what type of game it is.

“He just wants to win and do his best every single day in training and in games.

Martinelli will be keen to star when Arsenal return to Premier League action at home to Newcastle on Sunday.

Only a win will keep the Gunners’ slim hopes of reaching the top four alive.
