Fresh from rejecting the chance to become Arsenal’s new manager, Mikel Arteta now looks set to sign a new contract with Manchester City.

The football world was convinced the former Arsenal captain would be announced as Arsene Wenger’s replacement in the coming days, however talks broke down and Unai Emery looks set to be unveiled.

The 46 year-old has just left France following a domestic treble with Paris Saint Germain.

Man City have worked quick to soften Arteta’s disappointment by the offering the Spaniard a new two-year extension to remain on as part of Guardiola’s backroom team, say the Mail.

Arteta, who spent five years at Arsenal winning two FA Cups, has been part of Guardiola’s team since retiring from playing in 2016.

The 36 year-old is believed to have hesitated about taking the job because of decision-making about transfers, though Emery had no such misgivings.

Gooners, would Arteta have been a better option than Emery? Let us know in the comments…
