Monaco have emerged as late frontrunners to sign Olivier Giroud from Arsenal.
Giroud is at the centre of a transfer headache involving the north Londoners, Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund.
The striker could now seal a shock move to the south of France bringing an abrupt end to the Blues pursuit of a big man up front.
According to WhoScored, reports emerged on Monday evening suggesting Chelsea had agreed a fee with Arsenal only to withdraw their bid after the Gunners took too long to respond.
It’s uncertain whether the clubs have resumed negotiations, but with Monaco now a surprise entrant i, Giroud to Chelsea could be off entirely.
The Arsenal striker has played second-fiddle to club-record signing Alexandre Lacazette this season. He’s started just one Premier League game, but continues to impress as a substitute.
The Frenchman has not played since suffering a hamstring injury in Arsenal’s League Cup win over West Ham on December 19.
