Arsenal have reopened their search for a technical director after Monchi has chosen to return to La Liga club Sevilla as sporting director.

The Spanaird had looked set to team up with Unai Emery and the Arsenal board following the departure of Head of Recruitment Sven Mislintat.

Monchi was available after leaving his role as director of football at Roma at the start of March.

The 49 year-old spent 17 years at Sevilla during his first spell as sporting director, between 2000 and 2017.

The chain of events that led to Monchi returning to Spain instead of moving to north London was triggered when Sevilla sacked head coach Pablo Machin after they were knocked out of the Europa League by Slavia Prague. Director of football Joaquin Caparros has since been placed in charge of the team, leaving a vacancy for Monchi.

The Telegraph claim Arsenal will now consider targeting former Gunner Marc Overmars as technical director.
