Ex-Chelsea midfielder Ray Wilkins claims Jose Mourinho would prefer a move for Willian rather than Mesut Ozil.

Man Utd have been strongly linked with a January move for Ozil in the past few months, though Arsene Wenger recently declared the player will not be sold in the New Year.

Willian continues to be hit and miss with Antonio Conte. The Brazilian has started 8 of his 17 Premier League appearances so far.

Meanwhile, Ozil who is a regular for Arsenal has been unpredictable in performance for the north Londoners.

But Wilkins is in no doubt as to which potential reunion would most appeal to the Portuguese tactician.

“Mesut Ozil won’t go to Old Trafford because he doesn’t have the work ethic that Mourinho looks for in his players,” he toldĀ Sportingbet.

Ozil has scored 2 and assisting 5 in the league.

“I actually see Willian as being the likely player to head to Old Trafford.

“Jose is an enormous admirer of Willian and he would be a special signing for United, but I pray that Chelsea don’t let him go.”

A move for the Germany international would make financial sense however. With Ozil’s contract set to expire in the summer, Mourinho would sign him without paying Arsenal a penny.

Willian on the other hand, still has two-and-a-half years remaining on his current deal.
