Shkodran Mustafi has been given a new lease of life under Mikel Arteta.

The German defender was part of a defence that has kept its third clean sheet in a row in the 1-0 Europa League victory over Olympiacos in the round of 32 tie.

His performances of late has seen a remarkable turnaround for the 27-year-old, who was told he could leave last summer.

Mustafi continues to impress in 2020.

Mustafi came close to joining Galatasaray in 2019, but a move failed to materialise.

He found himself frozen out by Unai Emery at the start of the campaign but has now started Arsenal’s last six games under new boss Mikel Arteta.

Following the win in Athens, Mustafi wrote on Twitter: “Probably not our best performance, but we have been patient and will fly home with the important win,” the German international wrote on his Twitter account alongside a picture of himself and goalkeeper Bernd Leno after the game.

Arsenal are a step closer to the next round of the Europa League.

Fans will be hoping to go one better than last season in the tournament after losing 4-1 to Chelsea in the final.
