Mesut Ozil has been left out of Arsenal’s upcoming Europa League first-leg tie at Olympiacos.

Ozil set to miss Europa League clash

The German who netted for the first time in 10 months against Newcastle on Saturday has been omitted due to personal reasons and will play no part in Athens.

It is understood Ozil is staying behind due to his wife being close to giving birth to their first child.

Boss Mikel Arteta could bring in Dani Ceballos or Joe Willock in Ozil’s number 10 slot.

Meanwhile Matteo Guendouzi could return to the side after being dropped from the squad entirely last weekend.

The French midfielder has not performed at his best in recent weeks and there were reports of a bust up involving Guendouzi with Arteta and members of his coaching staff during a mid-season training camp in Dubai.

Arsenal reached the Europa League final last year. With the Gunners currently 10th in the Premier League, this competition looks the more likely option of reaching the Champions League.
