Arsenal ‘invincible’ Robert Pires believes Meust Ozil is “a warrior who wants to win something”, but the playmaker is frustrated by lack of signings.

Ozil has entered the final year of his current deal with Arsenal and was ridiculed for his performance during last weekend’s defeat to Watford.

Pires, who won two Premier League titles under Arsene Wenger, including withstanding an entire campaign unbeaten, has defended the Gunners star.

As reported by ESPN, he said: “Ozil is a warrior who wants to win something, and currently he makes the impression that he’s annoyed Arsenal have not assembled a squad which can win something,” he said.

“They only spent money on Alexandre Lacazette. That’s not enough to compete for the top spots.”

Since joining Arsenal in 2013, Ozil has lifted the FA Cup three times, but the Gunners have failed to get their hands on a Champions League or Premier League title.

As it stands, the German is set to leave The Emirates at the end of the season, though Wenger recently admitted it’s “possible” he could depart in January.
