Freddie Ljungberg is set to hold talks with Nicolas Pepe following the Ivorian’s dreadful start to life at the Emirates.

Pepe has scored just one Premier League goal in his debut season.

The winger, short on confidence, is likely to be on the bench for a fifth consecutive Premier League fixture when Arsenal host Brighton on Thursday night.

Ljungberg turned to Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli in the 2-2 draw at Norwich last weekend.

The Swede says he plans to speak with Pepe who is struggling to adapt to the Premier League.

Ljungberg said: “Sometimes when you come from a different league, it takes time to adapt on and off the pitch.

“I plan on talking to Nico about this because he is an important player for this club.

“I don’t think it’s a lack of confidence. I just think it’s moving to a new country and a new way of playing.

“So we’re going to have a little chat about what I expect from him and how I want him to play.”

Pepe’s £72m move from Lille in the summer is yet to pay off. The 24 year-old will be keen to be given match time to impress on Thursday night under the guidance of new boss.
