Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech has hit back at Bayer Leverkusen following their mocking of the veteran ‘keeper’s performance in Arsenal’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester City.

Many Arsenal fans expected new boss Unai Emery to start with Bernd Leno – the shot-stopper signed from Leverkusen in a £22m deal this summer.

However, after working hard on his physique, Cech edged out the Germany keeper for the opening game of this season.

Emery has encouraged his Arsenal team to play out from the back since his arrival, but the tactic failed to pay off against the Premier League champions.

In fact, at 1-0, Cech very nearly put the ball in his own net after his skewed pass trickled past the post.

A video of the incident found it’s way onto Twitter with Leverkusen’s English account getting involved.

“We might know a guy…” they replied to one Tweet highlighting Cech’s error, which was followed by a 29-second video of Leno playing out from the back in a game for the German side, with the caption: “In case you were all wondering how to play out from the back…”

Today Cech responded to the tweet which was retweeted over 1,750 times. The Arsenal ‘keeper slammed the German side for their lack of professionalism.

“@Arsenal we share important values which make us a big club not only on the football side . Fair competition, professionalism and sportsmanship are the biggest ones you teach young footballers and it’s sad to see when other clubs don’t share the same values. @bayer04–en,” he wrote.
