Player Ratings vs Manchester City

Arsenal suffered their second straight defeat after losing 2-1 at Macnhester City on Sunday.

Pep Guardiola got the better of Arsene Wenger yet again as his side came from behind to take the spoils. Wenger is still yet to produce an away victory over the Spaniard after five attempts.

Arsenal fans heavily criticised their team for a lack of effort in a second half which saw Manchester City take control.

The season now appears to be shaping as yet another campaign in which The Gunners early promise has not been sustained and another title charge spurned.

After Theo Walcott’s early opener, Arsenal fans would be forgiven for thinking their side had turned a corner. Yet the second period was as damaging to the fans psychologically as it was to their title hopes.

Despite a contentious offside equaliser, Wenger’s side were out thought, outfought and out played by Guardiola’s resurgent City.

So who showed up for a fight and who left their globes in North London? Check out how we rated the players…

DEFENCE

Petr Cech –– Didn’t cover himself in glory for the second. Any ‘Keeper would be disappointed to concede at their near post.

Nacho Monreal – 5.5 – Gave Sterling all the time in the world for his second. Terrible defending

Laurent Koscielny – – Grew into the game and impressed up until the second half

Gabriel – 5 – Like Koscielny, was a rock in the first period and a shambles in the second

Hector Bellerin – 6.5 – Rampant in the first half and influential to create the opener

MIDFIELD

Francis Coquelin – – Broke up the play with some wonderful tackling throughout

Granit Xhaka – – Struggled to get a foothold into the game with City’s second half dominance

Mesut Ozil – – The wizard cast a spell and completely disappeared in the second half

FORWARDS

Theo Walcott – – On the score sheet once again for his side. His 9th in the league

Alex Iwobi – – His skill, enthusiasm and speed troubled Zabaleta in the first but nowhere to be seen in the second

Alexis Sanchez – 7 – Lovely reverse ball to play in Theo for the opening goal. Worked hard throughout despite his teammates lack of effort.
