Arsenal are the first team successfully through to the Emirates FA Cup quarter-final stage after a 2-0 win over Portsmouth.

Mikel Arteta’s side needed to bounce back after their shock Europa League defeat last week and goals from Sokratis and Eddie Nketiah ensured the Gunners regained some momentum.

As well as Nketiah, the boss turned to fellow youngsters Joe Willock, Gabriel Martinelli, Reiss Nelson and Matteo Guendouzi. Meanwhile, new arrival Pablo Mari was excellent on his debut alongside Man of the Match David Luiz.

Although Portsmouth made a promising start, Sokratis gave the North London club the lead on the stroke of half-time with a crisp volley from Reiss Nelson’s cross.

And Nelson was the provider once again as Nketiah doubled the Gunners’ lead from close range shortly after the restart to score his third goal since returning from his loan spell at Leeds.

Arsenal have won the FA Cup a record 13 times, including six triumphs this century.

Could another Wembley visit be on the cards?
