Everton have emerged as surprise candidates to appoint Arsene Wenger should he be sacked by Arsenal

The Gunners boss has come under fire in recent weeks following a string of bad results.

The ‘Wenger Out’ banners were out in force at the Amex Stadium following Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat to Brighton on Sunday – it marked four defeats on the trot for the first time 16 years. Meanwhile sections of Arsenal’s travelling fans chanted for the manager’s exit.

Wenger signed a two-year extension last year, but speculation of the Frenchman leaving his post early continues to mount.

Everton appointed Sam Allardyce in November following the sacking of Ronald Koeman. Allardyce made a positive start, but the Toffees are now in poor form having slumped to their sixth successive away defeat at Burnley on Saturday.

And according to reports, Wenger is top of Farhad Moshiri’s list for the rebuilding job at Goodison Park.
