Arsenal have been linked with a move for Manchester City star John Stones and Ray Parlour is all for it.

The centre-half has struggled for game time under Pep Guardiola this season with just 10 Premier League appearances so far.

Reports on Monday claimed that Calum Chambers’ season-ending knee injury has forced Mikel Arteta to delve into the transfer market – and the Spaniard has identified Stones as his top defensive target.

It is unlikely Man City will allow Stones to leave this month, but the England defender will be growing concerned with Euro 2020 on the horizon.

Parlour has backed Stones to Arsenal

Stones has fallen down the pecking order in City’s squad and will be keen not to do the same in Gareth Southgate’s national team.

Arsenal legend Ray Parlour has backed the Gunners to make a move for the 25 year-old.

‘I’d be very, very happy if they brought someone like John Stones to the club,’ the ex-Arsenal midfielder told talkSPORT.

‘He would definitely play. With Calum Chambers out and Rob Holding in the background, if one of Luiz or Sokratis get injured Arsenal haven’t got a lot of back-up at centre half.

‘Would Luiz and Stones work together? Well, they’ve got Sokratis. Stones could play alongside him. He’s the better defender.
