Everton and Arsenal played out an uninspiring stalemate at Goodison Park as both side’s new managers looked on.

Mikel Arteta and Carlo Ancelotti were in the stands watching their new clubs after being named as the new men in charge this past week.

Arteta will have been pleased with an improved defensive display with the Gunners maintaining a clean sheet for the first time in 15 matches, but know he has work to do after watching a dour 0-0 draw on Merseyside.

In his final match in charge, interim boss Freddie Ljungberg handed starts to a number of Arsenal’s youth team products. Bukayo Saka impressed filling in for Kieran Tierney at left-back, while Emile Smith-Rowe and Reiss Nelson also played from the off.

The game’s chances were few and far between, but top scorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang squandered an excellent opportunity to give Arsenal victory when his close-range shot was neatly saved by keeper Jordan Pickford.

Gunners chiefs have sounded Ljungberg out about joining Arteta’s backroom team but the 42-year-old, who has been linked with Malmo, wants to meet the Spaniard first.

Gooners, who impressed for you at Everton? Let us know in the comments…
