Arsenal crashed out of the Carabao Cup after a dramatic night at Liverpool.

The two much changed sides could not be separated in a thrilling 5-5 draw before the Reds won it 5-4 on penalties.

Unai Emery recalled Mesut Ozil for the first time in over a month and the German was a huge influence on the young Gunners  side.

The wonderful 10-goal thriller saw Arsenal take a two goal lead twice. Lucas Torreira and a Gabriel Martinelli brace put the Gunners 3-1 up after Shkodran Mustafi had diverted the ball into his own net.

James Milner was calm from the spot to give Jurgen Klopp’s side hope just before half-time.

The goals were free flowing in the second half as well. Milner then uncharacteristically gave the ball away in his own area and Ozil teed up Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain then scored a belter against his old club before Divock Origi’s slick turn and finish made it 4-4.

Arsenal fans were celebrating once again when Joe Willock fired home from 25 yards. That was until Origi levelled and broke hearts in the 94th minute to take it to penalties.

In the end, Dani Ceballos was the only player to see his penalty saved and teenager Curtis Jones coolly thumped the final spot kick in off the post to make it five from five for the home side.
