Chris Kavanagh is no stranger to both sides, having been the man in the middle for 11 matches involving Chelsea and 16 involving Arsenal in recent years.

His most recent match involving Chelsea was their 2-1 win versus Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park last season. On that occasion, he showed 4 yellow cards, including bookings for Mateo Kovacic, Mason Mount and Thiago Silva.

His last match involving The Gunners was at St. James’ Park versus Newcastle United in May last season, when he showed 3 yellow cards as Arsenal won 2-0, with Eddie Nketiah receiving the only booking for the visitors.

This will be the first time he has been the man in the middle for a match between Chelsea and Arsenal.

His record last season:

Matches: 23
Yellow Cards: 70 (3.04)
Red Cards: 2

During the 2022/23 season, he was just a little card-happy in the Premier League encounter between Brighton & Hove Albion and Aston Villa (1-2) at the Amex Stadium when he showed 9 yellow cards, including a booking for current Chelsea player Moises Caicedo (then at Brighton) and former Arsenal player Emiliano Martinez.

So far this season:

Matches: 5
Yellow Cards: 12 (2.40)
Red Cards: 0

Kavanagh has been the man with the whistle on 5 occasions so far this season, showing just 12 yellow cards and no red cards. 5 of his 12 yellow cards came in the Premier League match between Manchester United and Crystal Palace (0-1) at Old Trafford, including a booking for former Chelsea player Mason Mount.
