Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud insists turning down a move to Everton this summer was the right decision.

Giroud had attracted interest from the Merseysiders following the sale of Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United. The Toffees were in need of an experienced marksman, but were unable to lure the Frenchman to Goodison Park.

Giroud also turned down Marseille and Lyon this summer to remain in North London.

Despite starting just three games this season and being second in line to Alexandre Lacazette, the 30 year-old claims he is happy to stay at the Emirates and fight for his place in the starting XI.

“I was very close to signing for another English club, Everton, but I made the best choice I think,” Giroud told France’s Canal Football Club.

He did turn down a move to Ligue 1, but says a return to France in the future is still on the cards: “I have a lot of respect for Marseille, I was a fan for years.

“I also have a lot of respect for Lyon, who were also interested at one time. I didn’t want to return to France. I’m happy in England, it’s nothing against those clubs. But a return to France is possible one day.”

Gooners, are you happy with Giroud’s current position in the team? Or does the star deserve more game time? Let us know in the comments…
