Arsenal have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot.
The Frenchman looked certain to depart Ligue 1 for an elite team this past January, however, no deal was able to get over the line.
While undoubtedly talented, Rabiot has not played for PSG since mid-December when he came on for the last few minutes of the Champions League tie against Crvena Zvezda.
He has just four months to run on his current contract and with the France international falling out of favour with boss Thomas Tuchel, it appears his career at PSG is fast approaching its end.
The 23-year-old is familiar with Gunners boss Unai Emery after playing under him in Paris during the Spaniard’s reign there and for this reason and others, is understood to be strongly considering a move to north London this summer.
Speaking about the Frenchman, Gunners legend Robert also believes Arsenal have the advantage over other potential suitors.
“Rabiot is a very good player and Arsenal should be trying their best to secure his signature before any other club does,” said Pires, speaking to bwin .
“Arsenal have the advantage of Emery having already worked with him at PSG, which should hopefully sway Rabiot to join Arsenal.
“He would be worth a big fee on the transfer market so the fact he’s free makes it a no brainer.
“If Emery can secure Rabiot then I think he’ll be able to fill the hole that will be left by Ramsey’s departure.”
