Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck will leave the club when his contract expires next month, Unai Emery has confirmed.

The forward made just 14 appearances under Unai Emery before suffering from a broken ankle in October which ruled him out for the rest of the season.

The announcement was made following the Gunners’ 1-1 draw with Brighton, after which the striker, who cost £16m from Manchester United, was presented with a memento on the pitch.

Unai Emery said: “I’ve talked to the club and the decision is he’s leaving.” The manager has little opportunity to deploy Welbeck in what turns out to be the player’s last season for the north Londoners.

The England international who arrived from Manchester United in 2014 has lifted two FA Cups for the Gunners.

Petr Cech and Aaron Ramsey are both joining Welbeck out the door as Emery plans to rebuild his side this summer.

Gooners, who should also be heading for the Emirates exit? Let us know in the comments…
