Former Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech was instrumental in the capture of David Luiz, according to an ESPN report.

The Brazilian arrived at The Emirates on transfer deadline day from Chelsea in an £8m deal.

Luiz played alongside Cech during his first spell at Stamford Bridge which saw the pair lift the Champions League together.

Petr Cech spent four years at Arsenal, winning two FA Cups

The report discusses how Arsenal director of football Raul Sanllehi was able to use his strong contact in Cech to help push a deal through. Cech, who spent four season’s as Arsenal’s shot-stopper was said to be heavily involved in the transfer.

Luiz is yet to show his best form for his new club – he conceded a penalty in the Gunners’ 3-1 defeat to Liverpool last weekend. However, he should prove a quality signing for Unai Emery’s side once he settles.

The 32-year-old is a proven, experienced performer at the highest level, having long been a hugely important member of the Chelsea squad.
