Report: Manchester City would not stand in way of Mikel Arteta joining Arsenal

Could former Gunners captain Arteta replace Emery?

Manchester City would allow Mikel Arteta to leave if Arsenal came calling, claims The Mirror.

Arteta has been linked with replacing Unai Emery as manager next summer.

The ex-Gunners’ captain still holds affection for Arsenal from his time playing and is one of the main contenders to take over should under-fire Emery depart.

Arteta has been learning his trade working as assistant to City boss Pep Guardiola since retiring from the game in 2016.

The Spaniard who spent five years at The Emirates that saw him score 16 goals in 149 appearances is among several candidates the North London club have in mind to potentially succeed Emery.

Other names linked with the top job at the Emirates Stadium include Jose Mourinho, Luis Enrique and Freddie Ljungberg.

The pressure on Emery continues to mount following a dismal run of form for Arsenal.
