Mesut Ozil has signed a new three-and-a-half year deal with Arsenal, reports say.

The 29 year-old becomes the highest-paid player in the club’s history – earning about £350,000 a week before tax in what is likely his last ‘big’ contract.

Ozil had been tipped for a switch to Manchester United this summer. However the Germany midfielder has not followed in Alexis Sanchez’s footsteps to Old Trafford and has committed to Arsenal until 2021.

Ozil has created over 450 chances since arriving to the Emirates in 2013. His current tally of 49 Premier League assists is the most of any player since he signed.

The playmaker has impressed Arsenal fans this season. In his 21 appearances this term, he’s scored four goals and recorded six assists.

Arsenal can expect big things from the German whose new deal commits him to the Premier League club until he is 32.

Ozil’s new contract has been boosted by the announcement that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has joined the Gunners from Borussia Dortmund.
