Arsenal reportedly pursued Massimiliano Allegri twice in the space of 12 months, but were still unable to bring the Italian to the Emirates.

The Juventus boss was first linked with the Gunners job last summer.

Allegri who, was out of contract with the Serie A giants was in line to replace Arsene Wenger. However, majority shareholder Stan Kroenke insisted Wenger sign a new deal – it led to Allegri extending his stay at Juventus which tied him to the club until 2020.

Following Wenger’s departure a short while ago Allegri was once again a top candidate to take charge by fans and the club.

Yet with the appointment of Sven Mislintat as head of recruitment and Raul Sanllehi as head of football relations, in November, the whole landscape at Arsenal changed and with that so did Allegri’s stance.

The man who led Juventus to their seventh league title in a row was not prepared to work at a club where he realised he would have very little power when it came to transfers.

The Star also understand the 50 year-old anticipated a transfer budget of around £200m and not the proposed £50m that new boss Unai Emery must contend with.
