Arsenal’s battle to keep hold of Alexis Sanchez has taken plenty of twists and turns in recent weeks but the latest report emerging from the continent is perhaps the most significant.

TalkSport, citing French outlet Le Parisien, state Paris Saint-Germain have ended their pursuit of Alexis Sanchez due to the Chilean’s audacious wage demands- which increases the likelihood of the two-time Copa America winner staying at the Emirates Stadium.

Alexis has entered the final 12 months of his contract in North London and is now keen on renewing but Arsenal have been very public in their desire to keep the South American at the club, with Arsene Wenger regularly reiterating on tour that Alexis won’t be sold.

A deal taking Alexis to PSG was more likely than Arsenal approving a sale to a rival Premier League side though and the Gunners now run the risk of seeing their superstar leave the club on a free transfer next year, where Wenger would be powerless to stop him joining a fellow English side.

Alexis remains on extended leave following his involvement in the Confederations Cup and is due to return to training at Arsenal at the end of the month, potentially making his first appearance of the season in the Community Shield clash with Chelsea.
