If reports are correct, Lucas Torreira has Mauricio Pochettino to thank for helping from receiving further punishment following his sending off in the North London Derby.
Torreira saw red after a challenge on Danny Rose in the final minutes of the 1-1 draw.
The Uruguayan was incensed and reportedly waited in the tunnel to make his feelings known to referee Anthony Taylor as he is now facing a three-game ban, keeping him out of next week’s clash against Manchester United.
But Standard Sport report that Argentine Pochettino intervened and warned the 23-year-old against going after the referee.
The 47-year-old Spurs coach approached Torreira and explained to him in Spanish that – although he believed his challenge was not malicious – a confrontation could result in a further punishment.
Arsenal are yet to launch an appeal for the midfielder’s ban. He is set to miss Newcastle and Everton, as well as the highly-anticipated clash with Manchester United at the Emirates on Sunday.
