Sol Campbell has cut ties with Macclesfield Town.

The Arsenal legend quit the club after eight months in charge of League Two side – having lifted the club off the bottom last season – helped by Andy Cole – and saving them from relegation.

The 44-year-old’s departure comes just two games into the new season, with the Silkmen sitting eighth on three points having beaten Leyton Orient 3-0 on Saturday.

It has been reported that the former England centre-half’s departure follows having not been paid for four months.

He, his staff and his players had been battling a financial crisis at Moss Rose.

“Macclesfield Town provided me with a great beginning in the managerial side of the game, as well as a fantastic learning curve which I am truly grateful for,” said Campbell (via talkSPORT).

“I would like to thank all the players and staff for their support during my time at the Moss Rose and also all the loyal fans, whose belief at the end of last season ultimately played a tangible role in our success.”
