Unai Emery has singled out the one and only stand out Arsenal player for praise in Sunday’s 1-0 loss to Everton.

The Gunners are in the thick of a top four battle after failing to see off Marco Silva’s valiant Toffees. Phil Jagielka, who was drafted in for the injured Michael Keane scored the only goal of the game.

Arsenal struggled to threaten the Everton defence throughout the afternoon, with Emery’s sides chances coming few and far between.

That meant Bernd Leno needed to be in superb form just to keep the north Londoners in the match.

Emery has hailed Leno’s performance after the German goalkeeper kept the scoreline down. ‘They feel strong here and physically they have players with good physical performances,’ Emery said.

‘They pushed a lot but we controlled the first half better, like we wanted.

Bernd Leno has replaced Petr Cech as Arsenal’s No 1 in the Premier League

‘Offensively we needed to play with more players taking more chances.

‘We did that in the second half but we lost the balance defensively because we conceded more chances than we wanted.

‘Leno was perfect for saving us. We had three good chances and didn’t score.’

Next up for Arsenal is their Europa League first-leg quarter-final clash with Napoli.
