Arsenal boss Unai Emery has been handed a vote of confidence following the club’s 2-0 home defeat to Manchester City.

The Gunners were routinely swept aside by the champions on day one of the new season.

Emery brought in five new arrivals over the summer, although the club appreciate most of his Arsenal squad has been inherited from Arsene Wenger.

Many Arsenal fans and pundits have criticised his summer signings, highlighting that the club are still in need of a wide-man and there was no superstar to really push the club forward.

However, the Daily Mirror report that club officials met with the Spaniard in the wake of the defeat to reassure the new boss he is not expected to perform miracles overnight.

Speaking after the City defeat on Sunday, he said: “The first half we didn’t play like we wanted.

“We spoke at half-time about taking more responsibility for the second half, to do a little more

“We wanted to build with the ball and break their lines.

“I think in the second half we played more like we want.”

Gooners, are you happy with our signings this summer? Let us know in the comments…
