The Wilfried Zaha to Arsenal deal is turning into one of the transfer saga’s of the summer.

The Gunners reportedly went into the transfer window with a trimmed budget of just £45m after failing to reach the Champions League for a second season on the trot.

Unai Emery’s side have targeted Arsenal fan Zaha and bid £40m for the player earlier this week. Unsurprisingly, Crystal Palace firmly rejected the offer and went on to accuse Arsenal of attempting to trying to create division between the player and the club.

One way Arsenal can meet Palace’s £80m evaluation would be to sell on of their current stars. Emery is suggested to be desperate to offload Mesut Ozil, but has been unable to find a buyer to pick up his £350,000-a-week wage packet.

But according to The Times, there are two crucial reasons why the Ivorian might still end up at the Emirates for less than £60m.

Arsenal have made Zaha their top target and the forward is also desperate to make the move across the capital.

The Gunners are also the only club to be showing a major interest in the ex-Manchester United winger, meaning Palace cannot hope for a bidding war.
