Unai Emery nixed Aaron Ramsey’s new four-year contract because the Spaniard wants to bring in his own signings next summer.

That’s according to reports in the Daily Star.

Ramsey looked set to extend his stay at Arsenal which currently stretches back to 2008. A new contract was close, but last month Arsenal retracted the agreement and now their current longest-serving player is  due to leave the club next summer having failed to put pen to paper on a new deal.

And according to the report, manager Emery had a big say in binning the new contract, citing new players as his main reason.

Arsenal are already working a tighter transfer budget following the big money arrivals of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Emery’s other issue with offering Ramsey a new deal in the final months of his contract is thought to be his wage demands.

Arsenal gave in to Mesut Ozil’s bumper new contract wage demands which has seen the German cop around 300,000-per-week. They do not appear prepared to have Ramsey take home a similar salary.
