Former Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has slammed Robin van Persie for quitting Arsenal in 2012.

Van Persie swapped the Emirates for Old Trafford in a £24m deal and was phenomenal in his debut season for Manchester United.

The Dutchman, 35, scored 30 goals in his first season for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side and bagged a Premier League winners medal in the process.

However, his form took a dive following the arrival of David Moyes and he was later shipped out to Fenerbahce in 2015.

Szczesny, who has since left Arsenal himself, played with Van Persie at the Gunners between 2009 and 2012 but did not hold back when asked for his thoughts on his ex-teammate.

Speaking to Foot Truck the Pole said: “You have to admit, he left for Manchester United and the following year won a title, however, after that he got benched, moved to Turkey and his big career ended.

“He could have made other decisions and achieved lots more at Arsenal.

“He’s extremely arrogant sometimes.”

Van Persie now plays in his native Holland for Feyenoord – the club where he began his career – but plans to retire at the end of the season.
