Manchester United should go and sign Alexis Sanchez next summer, claims Gary Neville.

The Chilean is out of contract at The Emirates at the end of the season and appears to have his heart set on leaving.

Sanchez came close to sealing a move to Manchester City this summer. Pep Guardiola’s side had agreed a £60m deal with Arsenal for their talisman on deadline day, but the move fell through after Sanchez’s proposed replacement Thomas Lemar rejected the Gunners.

Neville says his former side should snatch the Arsenal forward whilst they can.

‘Manchester United, in my mind, should always be challenging for the best players in the world,’ the ex-Red told Sky Sports News at the launch of University Academy 92 (via Metro Sport).

Sanchez came on as a sub for Arsenal’s clash with Chelsea on Sunday.

‘The argument is that always Barcelona and Real Madrid if they do want someone they will get them and that has played itself out over the last 10/15 years but United are now financially challenging. They are paying the sums they need to pay to attract the best players in the world.

‘I’ve not seen the Alexis Sanchez news, so you have given me something I haven’t heard before, but, from that point of view, United, from a general perspective, should always be challenging for the best players in the world and bringing them in.’

Sanchez was in sublime form last season as he became the first Arsenal player to hit 30 goals since Robin van Persie in 2011/12.

Despite the Chilean looking set to leave, Arsene Wenger has remained confident we still see the best of him this season.

Sanchez could feature as the Gunners host Doncaster Rovers in Carabao Cup 3rd round on Wednesday night.
