Wojciech Szczesny’s stock at Arsenal seems to be plummeting at a rapid pace. The Pole was again criticized on Monday for a few nervy moments against United, with some even intimating that his days are numbered at the club.
He finds himself the number two keeper at the moment, after a disastrous display against Southampton on New Year’s Day. He was at fault for both goals and to make matters worse was caught smoking in the showers afterwards, and subsequently hasn’t started a Premier League match since.
David Ospina has taken his chance well, and looks Arsenal’s go to man between the sticks at the moment, news which has allegedly alerted the attention of potential suitors. Inter Milan is said to be very interested in Szczesny, and the Italian outfit could be set to swoop for the player in the summer.
The Daily Star has recently suggested that Inter may look to Szczesny to replace current number 1 Handanovic, who seems certain to depart.
Arsenal in turn are being tipped to pursue Fiorentina’s Norberto Neto in response. Very interesting reports, and this is not the first time Arsenal have been linked with Neto, so perhaps there is some discontent with Szczesny. Funny how quickly things change in football, as Szczesny was once the goalkeeping golden boy for Arsenal.
He absolutely burst through the youth ranks to wrestle the position from Manuel Almunia in 2010, and looked a real promising prospect.
The Pole has made a few blunders lately. The Southampton display was horrendous and he could have done better on Rooney’s goal on Monday if I’m honest, but I’m not so sure releasing him is such a good idea. At 24, he is young for a goalkeeper and can still grow if you ask me. What do you think gooners? Should Arsenal offload Szczesny?
