Alexis Sanchez has not started either of Arsenal’s previous two league games.

The 28 year-old featured in Arsenal’s Europa League clash with FC Koln and played 90 minutes in their League Cup encounter with Doncaster Rovers.

Sanchez was denied a deadline day move to Manchester City on and their have been suggestions Arsene Wenger is sending his star a message by leaving him out of the big games – earlier in the week the Arsenal boss did however refute these claims.

‘There’s no disguised attitude on my side. I just try to get him back to full fitness,’ said Wenger. ‘Last night you could see that he is coming back sharp now.’

‘So I just try to give him competition and to get him back to his best, because I gave him a long holiday and after that long holiday this year he had a real rest.

Ozil and Sanchez were omitted from the side that drew at Chelsea.

‘He came back not really fit, it took us time to get him back and then he got injured.

Sanchez fired 30 goals in 51 appearances for Arsenal last season, becoming the first man to reach the milestone since Robin van Persie in 2011/12.

He is the main man at The Emirates stadium, but disappointingly for the fans, the Chilean appears dead set on seeing out the remainder off his contract and leaving as quickly as possible.

While his attitude doesn’t appear to be a current concern, the forward has reportedly disrupted the team before. Sources in March claimed a training ground row erupted over Sanchez’s attitude which led to Wenger deciding to put the 28 year-old on the substitutes’ bench for the following game at Anfield.

Arsenal were defensively sound against Chelsea without the Chilean (and Mesut Ozil). Perhaps feeling less under-pressure without Sanchez’s constant ridicule of his teammates.

The question remains as to whether last season’s top scorer should now start against West Brom on Monday.
