Arsenal hopes of signings Cristian Pavon appear to be over after the Boca Juniors star put pen to paper on a new deal.
Pavon has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates following an outstanding season in Argentina.
The 22 year-old was a key part of Boca’s title winning season and has attracted the attention of Europe’s elite.
His new four-year deal means Boca have taken steps to ensure they receive a big pay-cheque should a club move in on their prized asset.
The Gunners could still pursue the forward. Pavon’s previous contract release clause €33m has now been raised to €50m.
As reported by Golazo Argentino, Boca president Daniel Angelici revealed how his star is (for now) staying put: “Pavón is staying, he has signed for four more years. The clause is €50 million and that was what we wanted to be calm,” Boca president Daniel Angelici told ESPN.
“We wanted to sell at the moment we understood was necessary. So, for now, we want Boca supporters to enjoy it.
“He [Pavón] knows that his future is in Europe but for now he is enjoying himself and that makes the Boca supporters, who love him so much, enjoy too.”
