A 1-0 away victory at Sporting Lisbon means Arsenal have won 11 matches in a row for the first time in as many years.

Danny Welbeck grabbed the winner with a low driven shot to put Unai Emery’s clear in Europa League’s Group E.

A subdued first half seemed to point towards a goalless draw despite the Gunners controlling the possession – with the visitors managing just two tame shots on target before the break.

However, after stepping up the tempo in the second period, Welbeck pounced on an error by centre-back Sebastian Coates to slot a shot through the keeper’s legs after 77 minutes.

Unai Emery’s side have won all three of their group games and now sit three points ahead of Sporting.

The Gunners now look to this weekend’s meeting with Crystal Palace – a win would put them in touching distance of their all time record – 14 wins on the bounce – set during their 1987/88 season under George Graham.
