Swansea v Arsenal: Preview and predicted XI

Arsene Wenger’s side face a trip to Wales on Saturday, where they will be lining up against a struggling Swansea team.

The Swans had a change in management last month, with Bob Bradley, the first American manager in Premier League history being sacked after just eight-six days in charge. Englishman Paul Clement has taken over at the Liberty Stadium, with his first home game being against Arsenal this weekend.

Luckily for Arsenal, star players such as Mesut Ozil, Petr Cech, and Alexis Sanchez will be back in the squad travelling to Wales, a huge boost for Arsene Wenger.

The Gunners’ rapid full-back, Hector Bellerin, will not be travelling with the team Arsene Wenger confirms, as well as Francis Coquelin, who has just signed a new deal at the Emirates.

Every Arsenal fan will agree that anything but three points in Wales this weekend is simply not good enough, and the title race would be well and truly over for the Gooners.

Here’s our predicted Gunners line-up for the match…

At the back

With Arsenal’s number one keeper travelling with the squad, you would fully expect the Czech captain to be between the sticks for the Gunners at the Liberty Stadium this Saturday. David Ospina is a great goalkeeper, but Arsene Wenger will be play his strongest possible eleven.

Nacho Monreal will be at left-back, like he has been all season so far, the Spaniard has been solid for the Gunners in the last couple of campaigns and we fully expect him to keep his form up. Laurent Koscienly, who has recently signed a new deal, will be at centre-back – partnered by Arsenal’s summer signing, Shkodran Mustafi. The German is yet to lose a Premier League game, and a record Gunners fans will hope continue.

With Arsenal’s first choice right back out with injury at the moment, Wenger will most likely play his Brazilian centre-half on the right, Gabriel, due to a lack of options.

In the middle

We fully expect Arsenal’s German playmaker to return to the starting eleven, sitting just behind the striker. Mesut Ozil is crucial to Arsenal’s attacking play, with his passing being able to unlock defences in simple motions.

Sitting behind Ozil, should be Arsenal’s summer addition, Granit Xhaka, who is enjoying a good run in the Arsenal side – particularly due to Mohamed Elneny’s international break at the African Cup of Nations. Next to the Swiss powerhouse, should be be Aaron Ramsey, who scored a vital goal in Arsenal’s last game in the FA Cup against Preston North End. Ramsey has had his injury problems this season, but has found a way back into the side with many centre-midfielders out injured.

On the left wing we will see Arsenal’s ace, Alexis Sanchez, who was rested in Arsenal’s last game – whereas the right wing will be controlled by either Alex Iwobi, or Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, two youngsters with a point to prove whilst Theo Walcott is out injured. Danny Welbeck is back in the squad after a long-term injury, but would not be able to complete ninety-minutes yet.

Up front

In the striker role, there is only one man for the job at the Liberty Stadium and that is Arsenal’s target man, Oliver Giroud. The Frenchman is in great form and has held his place in the side since his return to the team. Giroud captained the Arsenal side in their last game, and is seen as a key player this season.

If Arsenal’s game plan isn’t going to plan, Danny Welbeck or Lucas Perez may make an appearance from the bench to mix their tactics and try to get a result in Wales. Arsene Wenger will not be wasting any time if changes are needed, as three points are vital to the North London side this Saturday.
