Manchester United would have completed a ‘sensational’ deal if they swap Henrikh Mkhitaryan for Alexis Sanchez, claims Phil Neville.

Jose Mourinho’s side are set to hijack Sanchez from under the noses of Man City. The star appeared to be en route to Pep Guardiola’s runaway league leaders, but the Red Devils have intervened and persuaded the Chilean to move to the ‘Theatre of Dreams’.

Sanchez fired 30 goals for Arsenal last season and is widely recognised as the Gunners’ best player. Meanwhile, his counterpart Mkhitaryan has struggled to rediscover the form that earned him Bundesliga Player of the Year in 2015/16.

The 29 year-old has fallen out of favour under Jose Mourinho having started less than half of United’s league games this season.

Neville has tipped the midfielder to impress in north London, but has described the deal as ‘sensational’ for his old side.

“I can see Henrikh going to Arsenal and being a fantastic signing for them,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live.

Mkhitaryan is Arsenal bound.

“If Arsenal sign Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang, Arsenal may become a better team, because they will have two really good players.

“We didn’t see the best of Mkhitaryan at United. I’m a massive fan of him.

“We saw glimpses this season, but I didn’t think he would be in Jose’s starting XI.

“He needs to go to a club where he will be allowed to flourish and maybe Arsenal is that club.

“I think it is a sensational deal for United.”

Mourinho has confirmed Mkhitaryan will not feature against Burnley tomorrow afternoon.

While Chilean press have reported Sanchez will be in Manchester today to complete a medical.
