The Arsenal January transfer target XI

Before you know it, January will be upon us and we will be searching Twitter high and low for any loose connection that suggests our beloved Arsenal are making moves in the transfer window.

The Arsenal faithful will be crossing everything in hope that Arsene Wenger delivers the two centre-backs and defensive-midfielder this current Gunners squad so desperately needs.

Whether Le Professeur delivers the reinforcements to refresh our worryingly depleted squad remains to be seen, however, the media outlets seems pretty confident he will, as they have linked a whole new starting XI with a move to the Emirates in January.

Iker Casillas – Throughout last season, when the Spanish international lost his No.1 spot at La Liga side Real Madrid, rumours circulated that Arsenal would make a move for the experienced ‘keeper in the summer just gone.

Obviously, that never materialised and, as of this season, Carlo Ancelotti has reinstated the Real Madrid stalwart as the main man between the sticks, which makes any move to Arsenal highly unlikely.

Winston Reid – Arsenal have long been linked with the West Ham centre-back who has, after a shaky start in east London, established himself as one of the first names on Sam Allardyce’s team-sheet.

The New Zealand international is currently in the last year of his Hammers contract – he also rejected a new deal from the club back in the summer – and we all know Arsene Wenger likes a cheap deal.

Fabian Schar – At the age of 22, the centre-back is tipped to be a huge prospect. Schar, who made two appearances for Switzerland at the World Cup, would appeal greatly to Wenger as he’d be able to mould the defender how he sees fit.

Aymeric Laporte – Rumours suggest that the Athletic Bilbao defender could cost as much as £35million. However, given that the central defender is only 20, it could prove to be a wise investment if he goes on to be at the Emirates for a decade or so.

Tyrone Mings – I’m glad you find it funny, Tyrone!

Yohan Cabaye – Arsene Wenger is a big fan of the French midfielder and tried to sign him before he moved to Paris Saint-Germain from Newcastle United. Cabaye has found options with the Ligue 1 champions hard to come by and may well be available in a cut-price deal.

Sami Khedira – There have been so many rumours regarding the Real Madrid man moving to Arsenal that he could fill a transfer window rumour XI himself.

Lars Bender – Much the like in the previous slideshow, the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder has been continually linked with a move to Arsenal. Having failed with a bid before, it remains to be seen whether a deal can be done.

Yevhen Konoplyanka – Having been close to joining Liverpool and West Ham within the last twelve months, the Dnipro midfielder will be expected to move in January.

With Theo Walcott returning and Lukas Podolski and Joel Campbell struggling for game time, it remains to be see as to whether Arsenal need another wide attacking player.

Klaas Jan Huntelaar – Will we finally get the striker that has been linked with Arsenal since his early Heerenveen days? With 79 goals from 158 appearances since 2009, the Dutchman may add that clinical cutting edge we are lacking in the final third.

Edinson Cavani – The striker has been linked with a move to the Emirates for the last 18 months or so and, out of everyone on this list, the Uruguayan international would certainly bring about the most fanfare should he sign on the dotted line.
