Decision time for Wenger – what formation should he deploy for Chelsea?

Arsenal welcome Chelsea to the Emirates on Wednesday night with Arsene Wenger’s side desperate to close the gap on their London counterparts.

One question on a lot of Arsenal supporter’s lips is what formation will Wenger set up with against the Blues.

The Gunners boss deployed a back three in the New Year’s Eve draw at West Brom. Despite dominating possession, Arsenal struggled to create clearcut chances and tested Ben Foster just four times.

Defensively however, Wenger’s side were robust and rarely troubled. As was the case when they met Chelsea at the Bridge in September. Alex Iwobi was given the nod, while both Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez missed the tie in which the two side’s played out a 0-0 draw.

Arsenal were picked off by Liverpool last month.

Playing at home, the north Londoners will expect more of the ball, but they are far more susceptible to being picked off on the counter, just as Liverpool proved last month.

It’s decision time for Wenger, who needs to factor in the likely absences of Mesut Ozil, Laurent Koscielny and Nacho Monreal.
