Arsenal fans may have got what they wished for as Mesut Ozil penned a new deal with the club. However, has Arsene Wenger just opened the floodgates for discord in the Arsenal team.

There were fears that Ozil, who had just five months to run on his previous deal would leave for free this summer.

However, the playmaker signed a bumper new contract worth £350,000-a-week this week to remain at the Emirates. Most Gooners are in agreement that the 29 year-old, set to stay until 2021, is the club’s current best player.

Yet Arsenal’s second highest earner, new signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang takes home £180,000-a-week – nearly half of the German’s income. Ozil’s new deal being a cut above the rest will likely opened the doors for discontent amongst the club.

The German has impressed this season, but are his 4 goals and 7 assists worthy of double his colleagues’ wages?

It’s an issue that could see many of those in the Gunners squad quickly close the pay gap between themselves and Ozil’s. Arsenal have now set a precedent to the players that the club have plenty in the kitty and are willing to pay up if you play your cards right.
