Arsenal are close to appointing Unai Emery as manager after a dramatic u-turn by Mikel Arteta.

The former Arsenal captain looked set to replace Arsene Wenger as manager, however talkSPORT say talks broke down after he wanted more control on transfers and limits of just a £50 million budget.

Arsenal have been working on a new structure of the club in recent months. Sven Mislinat was recently awarded head of recruitment. Meanwhile, back in February Raul Sanllehi, formerly of Barcelona, was appointed head of football relations.

Arteta, who is currently an assistant coach at Manchester City has worked under Pep Guardiola for the past two years.

The Spaniard has considerably less managerial experience than Emery. The 46 year-old led Paris Saint-Germain to a domestic treble this season, while he previously also enjoyed three-successive Europa League triumphs with Sevilla.

Gooners, do you think Arteta would have succeeded at Arsenal? Let us know in the comments…
